The skilled independent visa (sub-class 189) is for independent professionals who merit making the application based on their own credentials, skills, qualifications and experience. They do not require any employer nomination or family sponsorship. With the grant of the visa, you are granted the rights to live and work anywhere in Australia on a permanent basis. One must achieve a minimum of 65 points which is based on Age, qualification, experience and knowledge of English language. The higher the point score the sooner one gets an invitation from the Department of immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) to make the application.
The skilled Nominated (sub-class 190) is for qualified and experienced professionals or trade persons whose occupation is on the short -term skilled ocuupation list (STSOL) and also on the migration plan of the state or territory (STMPs)
The Skilled Nominated/Sponsored (sub-class 489) is a temporary visa which leads to a permanent Visa. After 2 years the visa holder may make an application for a permanent visa.This visa can provide you with additional points if sponsored by family.
